Adobe's blog post and release notes tout Flash 10.1's performance, stability and privacy improvements. But the real reason to install 10.1 is its security fixes, which close a serious vulnerability.

Software companies like Adobe, Apple and Microsoft have long had to battle software pirates. Now these companies are beginning to face some trickier contenders: free Web-based software.

Adobe has released Photoshop Lightroom 3, the popular photo manipulating and management tool. It’s been in beta for a while, so none of the features will be particularly shocking, but the final version being made available today does have a few tricks up its sleeve. We’ll take a quick look tonight, but I have a copy on my hot little hard drive, and want to give it a good week or two of use before publishing a full review.

Adobe has acknowledged a "critical" security flaw in its Reader, Acrobat and Flash Player software. Adobe says the vulnerability potentially enables hackers to take control of affected computer systems. Users running Windows, Macintosh or Linux might all be open to attack.
