Ever since the release of the iPad, we've been waiting for the e-book reader price drop. If the iPad, with its color screen, long battery life, fast processor, and huge app store can sell for $500, how could the Amazon Kindle and Barnes & Noble Nook survive at $259? Today seems to be the day of reckoning: E-book readers are in a race to the bottom.

iPhone 4 preorders top 600,000 as unlocked iPhones head to Canada
While Apple fans pulled their hair out Tuesday trying to secure an iPhone 4 preorder, the company actually had a pretty good day. Apple, AT&T, and the foreign iPhone carriers tallied 600,000 preorder sales in 24 hours. The number likely would have been much higher had their computer systems kept up with demand.

The 3G network of mobile phone company O2 was out of action in some parts of England for up to 3.5 hours on 17 June. A spokesperson for the operator said coverage was "patchy" in parts of Hertfordshire, Sussex and London. Customers complaining about the outage on Twitter also mentioned problems in other regions including Southampton and Warwick.

iPhone 4 pre-order gets off to slightly choppy start
Early adopters, take your mark. On Tuesday morning, Apple began taking pre-orders for the much-hyped iPhone 4, the boxy, feature-heavy successor to the iPhone 3G S. As of 9 a.m., Apple was only accepting pre-orders for two iPhone 4 models, both in black: The 16 GB handset, which is priced at $199 with a contract, and the 32 GB handset, which will retail for $299. AT&T Explains iPad Security Breach
On Sunday evening, AT&T sent an e-mail message to owners of the Apple 3G iPad notifying them of a security breach that was publicized early last week. The message, sent by Dorothy Attwood, a senior vice president and chief privacy officer at AT&T, explained that a number of iPad 3G owners’ e-mail addresses, along with a private identification number known as an ICC-ID, were made public through a breach in AT&T’s Web site. The company also apologized for the security error.

Apple iPad 3G Security Hole Reveals 114,000 Subscriber Email Addresses
First and breathlessly reported by Gawker, the iPad security gap was originally uncovered by a group called Goatse Security. Goatse, named after an old internet meme to which I will not provide a link, out of respect for you fine readers, is a loose group of do-good hackers who find security loopholes and report them to the software's maker. They've previously found holes in browsers like Firefox and Safari, but this looks like their biggest yet.
